CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND (Lincolnshire)14.10.2009
Winter Holidays - Festive Destinations
Like most places, the UK gears up for the Christmas Holidays as soon as the Autumn arrives.
The TV adds are the first to tell you!
Most cities, towns and villages etc, have a big Christmas tree situated in the middle so that it can be seen by everyone.
Like ours, is in the Market Place. These starts getting put up around the end of November.
Getting closer to December, shops start to fill with Christmas products and the excitement begins.
Christmas parades are popular and sometimes include the Christmas market and the switching on of the Christmas tree lights and the street lighting, by a mayor or someone else a bit important!
These usually start at one end of town to the other so everyone can enjoy Father Christmas and his sleigh with real reindeer.
There are plenty places of worship and you can hear the bells ringing to welcome in the day. Midnight mass is also held.
The one things we would like to happen is to snow on Christmas day.
We have had snow two to three weeks before, but alas it never lasts for the big day, the most we can expect is a hard frost.
Christmas day would not be the same without the Queens speech at 3pm after that watching TV all day.
As for food it's pretty much a Sunday dinner which consists of, roast turkey (usually) other meats are eaten.
Roast and mashed potatoes and a large selection of veg, which wouldn't be Christmas without the Brussels sprouts.
There is also Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
But people have all sorts for dinner like a Chinese meal and even pizza, probably because they cant be doing with the hassle.(guilty done that a few times)
Then there is tea which is all the cold meats, buffet style. Lots of drinks and chocolate.
The children will be merrily opening their presents and then its time to relax.
